Amélie Lehoux
Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, graphic designer and illustrator Amélie Lehoux works with agencies, brands and magazines on diverse projects encompassing illustration, branding, packaging, animation and typography. “With each assignment comes a new way of thinking and sometimes even constructing the image. It’s like starting over every time, which is both invigorating and challenging,” Amélie notes.
An adept experimenter, she navigates digital, collage and traditional mediums such as ink, acrylic, and oil pastels in a dynamic creative process until the desired result is achieved. “I love to experiment with different mediums and with happy accidents, but I also like to have control over the image I’m working on with Photoshop,” she explains. Here, composition and colours complement the tactile quality brought by cut-outs and textures, resulting in a harmonious blend of precision and spontaneity.
Celebration of the Simple Things
Nature and the everyday simple pleasures are sources of inspiration and Amélie evokes a sense of stillness amidst the frenetic pace of modern life. “I would like to think my work is a celebration of the simple things you can find around you,” she muses.
Carefully curated palettes convey specific emotions and messages: “Colour is the first thing you notice, so it’s important that the colour palette is harmonious and that it communicates something,” says Amélie. The interaction of shapes, colours and textures creates images that live in “the frontier between the tangible and the intangible,” echoing the words of Fellini.
Working from her home studio filled with brushes, papers and prints, she finds joy in the interplay of her eclectic tastes and interests, which include music, cooking, cycling, cinema and analogue photography, and inform her work with a rich and multifaceted character.
